We are very proud of our staff and their passion for cycling. Combined they have a wealth of experience across almost all cycling disciplines. Read on to get to know a little more about those behind the counter.

 

John aka ‘The Boss’

 

John

John will hate us saying this (as it will make him feel old), but he is a legend in Western Australian cycling. John is a former president of both WAMBA and the Perth MTB Club, and now runs the Single Track Minds race series. He has a wealth of mountain biking experience and is a force to be reckoned with in technical singletrack.

1. What is your role in the store?

The boss!

2. What styles of riding do you do?

All styles, but XC is my main passion.

My Crux Pro.

 Mudguards, they keep my back dry when it is wet.

7. Where do you ride most?

 Kalamunda trail network.

8. Best trail/route you have ever ridden?

Every trail used in the BC Bike Race, and the trails around Whistler in Canada.

8. Best piece of advice to other cyclists?

Have fun!

9. Length of time in the cycling industry?

5 years as the owner of Wembley Cycles.
Previous to that 2 years working in a shop in London.

 

Mitch

Mitch

Our mechanic Mitch is an avid mountain biker and road cyclist. Mitch is one of the most easy going people you will find out on the trails. He is famous in store for his ability to crash and injure himself in almost any circumstance!

1. What is your role in the store?

Mechanic.

Mountain biking; XC and trail.
Road.

The Mavic Crossmax Enduro wheelset I have fitted to my Stumpjumper Evo, so fast!

7. Where do you ride most?

Kalamunda trail network.

8. Best trail/route you have ever ridden? 

Wellington Mills DH trails.

9. Best piece of advice to other cyclists?

There are less cars on the trails! 

10. Length of time in the cycling industry?

9 years split between sales and mechanics.


Justin

Justin is a keen triathlete and a real demon on the road sprints. He is also the cleanest staff member in the store, you are unlikely to see his fit studio in a mess!

1. What is your role in the store?

Bike fits.

2. What styles of riding do you do?

All genres, with a focus on triathlon. 

3. Bikes you currently own?

S-Works Allez!

4. Bikes you have previously owned?

Many, many bikes.

5. Favourite bike?

Of the bikes I have owned, S-Works Shiv and Venge.

6. Favourite bike component/apparel?

My limited edition Boonen Prevail helmet

7. Where do you ride most?

Coastal roads.

8. Best trail/route you have ever ridden?

Old cobbled farm roads in Northern France.

9. Best piece of advice to other cyclists?

All the other staff have said something along the lines of “keep it fun”, so I am going to go the other way….Riding isn’t actually fun, only winners are grinners!

10. Length of time in the cycling industry?

15 years, doing everything (sales, mechanics, manager, fitter).

 

Jimmy

1. What is your role in the store?

Head mechanic.

2. What styles of riding do you do?

Cross Country, Trail Riding and Road Commuting.

3. Bikes you currently own?

MTB – Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt.
Road – Lemond Zurich.

4. Bikes you have previously owned?

You would be bored before I got halfway through the list. Highlight include 1992 GT Zaskar, 1999 Schwinn Homegrown Factory Team, Scott Scale LTD, Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt.

5. Favourite bike?

The Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt, it has inspired me to ride more.

6. Favourite bike component/apparel?

Shimano XTR. However, a dropper post has improved my riding the most in the last two years.

7. Where do you ride most?

Perth Hills MTB trails, ideally where there is less traffic.

8. Best trail/route you have ever ridden?

Gun Creek Trail in the Chilcotin Mountains of British Columbia, Canada.

9. Best piece of advice to other cyclists?

Ride trails that scare you and with people faster than you, it is the best way to improve.

10. Length of time in the cycling industry?

Since ’98. A bit of wholesale to start, retail since then.

 

Brad

Brad

Brad is the endurance rider of the store. You will find him out and about on long road rides and mountain bike missions. He is also an excellent photographer, and his work can be seen throughout the store.

1. What is your role in the store?

Sales.

2. What styles of riding do you do?

XC, Trail, Road and Pub to Pub!

3. Bikes you currently own?

Margaret River Pines for sure!

Trust your tyres and momentum is your friend.

4 years in sales and cycling photography.


Nick aka ‘Dollop’

Our part timer Nick has been in the bike game for a while now and is an experienced mountain biker. As well as working at the store he is studying Engineering.

1. What is your role in the store?

It varies between sales and mechanics/building bikes.

2. What styles of riding do you do?

Mountain biking; Downhill, Trail, Dirtjumping and Street.
Road.

3. Bikes you currently own?

Specialized Demo 8 Alloy II

4. Bikes you have previously owned?

Norco Aurum, Tomac Primer 220, Transition Bottle Rocket, Specialized P.2, S-Works Tricross.

Stumpjumper Evo 26”, hands down!

6. Favourite bike component/apparel?

KS Lev dropper post.

7. Where do you ride most?

Kalamunda trail network and Wellington Mills.

8. Best trail/route you have ever ridden?

Nannup State DH track.

9. Best piece of advice to other cyclists?

Get off the brakes! 

10. Length of time in the cycling industry?

5 years split between full-time and part-time, working as both a mechanic and in sales.

 

Reece aka ‘Mr. Speed’

Reece is easily the best cyclist in the store. He has won more races than we could possibly list, including national championships in U15 and U17 XCO, U17 team pursuit and more state championship titles than anyone can remember.

1. What is you role in the store?

Building bikes and sales.

2. What styles of riding do you do?

XCO, Road, Track and BMX

3. Bikes you currently own?

I am sponsored by the Target Trek MTB team, so I have a fleet of Treks and my Specialized P.20 BMX.

4x Specialized Stumpjumper Hardtails (Expert and S-Works in both 26” and 29”)

5. Favourite bike?

Cross country 29” hardtail.

Rotorua in New Zealand.

Slam that stem!

3 years, mainly building bikes.

Theo is the Wembley Cycles equivalent of Bear Grylls! If it is sporty and outdoors, Theo is all over it.

Jack – Coming soon!

Our junior Jack loves mountain biking more than probably any other person we have ever met! He will swing a leg over his hard-earned Specialized Enduro Evo at any chance he can get.

Christian – Coming soon!

Christian has recently joined the Wembley Cycles team as a salesperson, and also works behind the coffee machine at Workshop Espresso. When not serving up primo coffees, you will find him out racing at mach one on his road bike!

We are please to announce that we have added Murray to our workshop team. Murray is an experienced mechanic, excellent mountain biker and is involved behind the scenes organising gravity endure races with the Peel MTB Club.

Declan – Coming soon!

Declan has just joined Wembley Cycles as a salesperson. He is a promising young road and mountain bike racer, and will always greet you with a smile.
